CWA Boulder Trishaw

About CWA in Boulder Colorado

Cycling Without Age (CWA) is a nonprofit volunteer organization that takes seniors for free bike rides on specialty cycles – trishaws.

Established in Denmark in 2012, CWA now has more than 2000 chapters in 40+ countries spanning the globe. CWA fulfills “the right to wind in their hair” allowing the elderly to experience life in nature and outside their senior centers in a safe, secure environment.

CWA Boulder was granted its charter from Cycling Without Age in November 2019. Immediately thereafter CWA Boulder Inc. was formed as a Colorado nonprofit corporation and was granted 501(c)3 status by the IRS, effective November 26, 2019.

CWA Boulder Status and Plans

CWA Boulder has successfully raised funds for its initial capital investment in trishaws and its early operating costs through the generosity of private donors. CWA Boulder has purchased 2 trishaws and has presented this special volunteer service offering to senior facilities located within safe trishaw travel distances to the Boulder multi-use path system.

CWA Boulder continues to introduce its service offering:
- to city government and their agencies associated with aging and  transportation;
- to service clubs, foundations, and private donors; and
- to offer the personal service opportunities as a cyclist (CWA calls a pilot) taking seniors for half hour to 2 hour rides whenever the weather permits.

Teaming with Golden West

We are proud of our teaming arrangement with Golden West Senior Living Center, a not-for-profit community whose mission is to give hope to seniors by providing an affordable home in Boulder. CWA Boulder and Golden West will be offering rides throughout the Spring, Summer, and Fall three days a week, providing rides to 15+ passengers each week.

Introductory Rides at Golden West

During the warm days of February 2020, we were able to provide rides to 18 Golden West residents including visits to the nearby University of Colorado Boulder campus.  During the rides, we had the opportunity to visit with engineering students and CU administrators all of whom were delighted to have our senior citizens visit.
